As a child, I already had the greatest wish to own a dog. My father hold the belief, that a appartement is no place for a dog. When I left home at the age of twenty-one my mother agreed that “Snoopy” should move in, but this was without my fathers knowing.
It was a black male Cockerspaniel, bought through lack of knowledge from a dog handler.
Through Snoopy I discovered my love for this breed. Within a short while, he conquered with his charm, but also with his stubborness the whole family.
Unfortunately our happiness was short lived, as he died tragically not quite a year old.
The grief was so great, that my mother and I searched for a replacement. This brought us by chance to Postbauer-Heng, which we found a street sign with the advertisement “Cockerspaniel-Kennel vom Asbach – particoloured Cockerspaniels”!
So it was, that the orangeroan Cockerspaniel-bitch Betsy vom Asbach, named Bonny moved in.
I quickly learned to appreciate the obedience of a bitch and as life is and breeders are, the family Schobert asked me, to go with Bonny to a show. She was free of hips-diseases and so she was ready for a first litter. Therefore I agreed, that she could be mated. Fortunately at this time, I met Sonja Sperber (Kennel vom Sperberhorst).
This gave me the opportunity to observe the process of breeding. It was easy, as Mrs. Sperber lived near by and she could look back on thirty years experience as a dog breeder.
So I started my own breeding activities in the Jagdspaniel-Klub e. V.
Just before Bonny’s first litter, I aquired the six months old black bitch “Charlott von der Margarethenhöh” named Cindy, which went the mother of my solid line.
Just resently Peter Beyersdorf (my life companion) is co-owner in the Snoopys kennel. He looks back to 28 years as a Judge-Specialist for English Cocker Spaniels (among others) and so I'm sure, we are doing well together!
Besides all the golden hours, you have with the dogs and the puppies, besides all the nice friendships you made, you unfortunately also learnd to be able to accept a lot of setbacks and disappointments (in relation to breeding).
Just that's why, also in the future, we want to achieve an even better line of English Cocker Spaniels with good health and nature and last but not least in beauty.
